Chamber Economic Stimulus Program 

The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the launch of "Pay the 2s Forward," an economic stimulus program designed to fuel our local economy and show the impact that Chamber members have on the Gainesville business community. 

On the night of Business Showcase, the Chamber provided participants with clearly marked, special currency that we hope to see filter throughout the economy starting the evening of May 15, 2008.  We would like to ask you for your help in making this program a success that will carry over in the weeks and months ahead by keeping this currency in circulation.

Additionally, many Chamber member businesses are joining the program by adding their own rebates, coupons or discounts.  Please contact each business directly with inquiries about their specific offer. Starting May 1, additional tax rebate checks began showing up in Americans' mailboxes and bank accounts as the centerpiece of the government's $168 billion economic stimulus plan designed to boost America's economy by throwing a little extra spending money our way. The question is—how will you spend your extra moolah? 

1. Words, music and art complete one another. Allow music to express, inspire and bring passion into your life! Learn how to play a new musical instrument or take singing lessons, and enjoy the gift of music for years to come. 

2.  Technology is changing at rapid-fire speeds, which means continuous increases in productivity and competitiveness for those who can keep up. Upgrade your software and/or hardware, and then donate your used equipment for a tax write off next year.

3. Whether it is just you or your entire family, Alachua County offers a myriad of ways to enjoy the great outdoors and forget about the stresses of day-to-day life! Try biking, camping, kayaking, fishing, tubing, hiking, boating, swimming in the springs, bird watching, horseback riding or countless other outdoor activities. You could even try hunting. Whatever you decide to do, just enjoy nature and the fresh air!

4. Progressive dining is the most unique and exciting way to enjoy the very best in local cuisine. Get a group of friends together and plan your progressive dining experience. Pick all your favorite restaurants and try a different location for every course of dinner—appetizers, soup, salad, dinner and dessert. For added style and safety, rent a limousine to transport the whole group from location to location. Bon appétite! 

5. Purchase a membership or subscription, and enjoy your extra money all year long! Enjoy a membership to a local museum, health club or playhouse. Enjoy a subscription or gift card you can use again and again for movies, music, flowers and so much more. Just enjoy it all year long!
